Step 3 will help us focus our effort to enable successful change.
We know that it is often times easier to "tell" someone what we want them to do than to think through exactly what is needed to carry out a new behavior. If someone tells us "Buy a new septic tank!" or "Boil your water!" would we do so simply because they said so? Or would we consider the following: (1) the impact such a change would have on us and those around us, (2) what we would need to have or do to adopt the behavior, and (3) whether we could/would do it. Well, we are not alone; our audience will follow much the same process.
